 Jenneville Cemetery researched in 2003

By:

Gary Allen Lull Notes: In 2003: As researched.

Documented as typed By Gary Allen Lull in 2006/07/08.

From what I could see the bodies were buried in three row plots, grouped in their plots left to right. The bodies are left to right in rows and within family Plots, that go front to back, creating three sections of three, also left to right. With walkways between. I photographed them in the sections, starting on left row section than middle section and right Section. Working left to right in each section first left than middle and finally left last.

The Jenneville Cemetery is one of the larger neighborhood cemeteries in the town of Hartland. It is still in use, 2006. The photograph above shows the Jenne surname with in it’s Plot, located in the Middle section as show here and halfway towards the back of that section. It shows six grave markers across the front, of this photo.

The oldest gravestone in the cemetery is that of Mrs. Lucy Weeden, consort wife of Mr. Samuel Weeden. She died October 27th 1798, aged 36 years old. Burials have occurred here all through the nineteenth century and down to the present time. In other words the Jenne Grave Yard as B. P. Ruggles called it, is about two hundred years old. See Salley Clark, died 1794 page 4 of this group sheets.

Mr. Ruggles made his survey of the cemetery in August 1907. This more recent survey was done in 1943 and updated Sep. 28th, 1992. I went in 2003 to get information of it in 2003. Not only did I get photo’s but also got the information of the stones.

Each Cemetery is recorded in different ways. This may be good or bad. Arranging name alphabetically is of course helpful to the person trying to find there information but lacks a plot to locate each person by the plot of surnames in the plot. Discrepancies have accrued which I will not go into here as they have over time cleared up.

Acid rain has done a job on the stones as reported back in 1943. So we can see it’s a real problem.

After climbing Holbrook hill in or into West Windsor, past the Hilbrook place on the right, perhaps 1/8 mile beyond the road divides past the former schoolhouse and down past the former Windosr Town farm on the right and on down to join the county road. To the right the Brownsville road curves past the Tom Hardy buildings on the right. ( The former school house is up on hill nearly opposite the Hardy barn.)  A few hundred feet beyond the hardy house the next intersection to the right goes past the former “Mark” Morrison farm and that road continues back into Hartland (probably into District No. 21). One of Mark Morrison’s daughters, Isabel Brannock, used to come to the Hartland Historical room occasionally to inspect and care for an old revolutionary war uniform (perhaps David Morrison’s), and a few mothballs and do whatever else was necessary to aid the uniform’s preservation. It used to be wrapped up carefully to prevent facing and damage from the light. It was usually displayed only on the fourth of July.

Mary Weeden continued:

Samuel Weeden may have been called Jr., in his youth, that is if he was a Junior? There are three Samuel Weeden’s buried in Jenneville cemetery. The oldest was Samuel Weeden of 1759 – 1821. I tis not presently known if these three Samuel Weeden’s were father, son and grandson? More research needs to be done on this family genealogy, but tentatively this is briefly their record:

Samuel       Weeden 1759-1821.

Mary Willard was the mother of Mary (Willard) Weeden (1798- 1816), wife of Samuel Weeden; Laura, wife of Asa Whitaker (1800-1847); an unnamed daughter perhaps an infant or possibly Lucinda Willard) Leonard, deseased before 1851, wife of Tisdale Leonard, who was appointed guardian of his minor daughter, Elizabeth T. Leonard; miss Fanny Willard (1805-1980) and Lucy, wife of John Wesley Labaree (1816-1854). Fanny and Lucy are buried in the Hartland Village Cemetery. The list of Simeon Willard’s children in the Willard Cemetery is not in order of their birth and may not be complete. There are no children listed of the second wife, Olive Bridge, whom Simeon married Dec., 6th, 1818 in Windsor, according to Willard genealogy, page 195. The daughter, Mary (Willard) Weeden had one child named Willard Weeden.

Hello!

I recently visited the Jenneville Cemetery where five of my relatives are buried, but who are not listed on your website. These graves are located in the back of the cemetery on the left hand side. If you are facing the entrance to the cemetery, the graves are at about the 10- to 11-o'clock position. These relatives are: My uncle,

Floyd Paul Kingsley, 1925-1971

My grandmother, Cordelia W. Kingsley, 1882-1980,

My grandfather, Frank Paul Kingsley, 1889 to 1956

My uncle, David F. Kinglsey, 1938 to 1953,

and my great-grandmother Olive L. Kingsley, 1869 to 1925. (she actually is my grandmother's mother (Olive Logan Howald Bayliss), but she married her son-in-law's brother after her first husband died).

I am doing heritage albums for both my sons and was just surfing the web when I came across your website. Thought you would like to know about the omission. I appreciate what I saw on your website!!

Other Notes: Keep in mind when one dies in this state the ground does not thaw out until late May. Also a lot of the stones were in bad condition in the area she is talking about, as unreadable.

Information here for this cemetery, hard copy, was copied some time ago and I apologize for the delay in transcribing it. As the original copy ran out of ink when printing it, faded ink found it very difficult for me to read in my late years of the some 14 pages as surnames listed. This Cemetery is an active Cemetery yet to date, which means people are still being buried in the Grave Yard. This cemetery can also be viewed from the Hartland Historical Society Web page which has a version of its own Jenneville Cemetery as venture reality site. Here I try to give the viewer a different perspective of the data from a History point of view. Photos that I have taken, which were took in 2003 will be transferred to the Historical Site page as soon as I can make the 17 diskette’s transferred, to a Hard disk.

Finished April 2008; Signed Gary A. Lull
